Bittersweet Goat Goodbyes

"O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever." Psalms 107: 1

We've sold most of the kids this year.

In February, Robinhood went to his new home where he's super well-loved.

Boudica went to her new home a week after her brother.

Ivanhoe home went to his new home shortly after his sister.

Sapphire & Jewels Grace headed to their new home yesterday, where they'll enjoy life as happy pets and get to browse the land.  Gonna miss those two.

That evening, Wildkat went to his new home. He's his owners' first buck. He'll be a happy guy come fall!

Little Miss Calico will be heading out of state in just a few weeks.

And though she's not technically a kid, Byte went to her new home where she'll be a big part of bringing polled genetics into her herd.
It's already so much different and so much quieter now that everyone's gone.  It's a little sad not hearing their welcoming voices and fussy cries.  But the comforting thing is knowing that I'm satisfied with all the homes they've gone to along with all the time I enjoyed spending with them.    <3

Peace in the Storm

"Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness."  Isaiah 41:10

We've been having quite a few storms this month, which I suppose isn't all that unusual.  I guess it's just because I've been following the weather quite a bit  lately, more than I ever have before.  It's been rather interesting seeing where the storm cells end up going and how we're affected- or not- by them.

This evening, one came upon us quite suddenly.   Scattered showers soon turned into rumbling thunder, flashes of lightning, a sudden downpour, and strong wind.  I admit it; I was scared- fear is something I'm in the process of overcoming, with God's help!

But God was with us and kept us, our critters, and our buildings safe.  All we lost was a mulberry tree that knocked out our bench and one of our pear trees.

The bench might be salvageable and we're going to see if we can graft the pear tree.

Within fifteen minutes, the worst had passed.  The skies cleared up and left this beautiful sight.

We're getting light showers...
 and there's peace and calm.
it's all good. . .

Skinks & Thankfulness

"O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens." Psalm 8:1

What a blessed day I've had!  Answered prayers, the growth in our garden, spending time with family, little blessings from God like this skink here, who wanted to chomp on my finger every time she could,

and peace in the storm have all made it such a sweet, memorable day. Thank you Lord! <3
What a little cutie!

Just a Bit About Me

Hey! I suppose it would only be proper to begin this blog with an introduction, right?  I was homeschooled from first grade through high school. I love animals of all kinds, but my favorites are horses, snakes, games, guineas, goats, and cats.  I've been around animals all my life and that continues as our little farm keeps growing with its chickens, rabbits, guineas, and goats.

Having these animals means a lot of work around here.  From mucking out pens to repairing fences and from butchering to finding uses for the abundant amount of milk and eggs we gather,   it's all part of living on the farm.  It isn't all work, though! I like to have some fun!

And, you know, a little rest is always welcome too.

Apart from the critters, I also have an interest in sewing, reading, drawing . . .

Photography, midwifery- and not just with goats either, I'm talking about human midwifery, too -...

cooking, baking, . . .

running, hanging out with my family, and growing closer to the Lord.

This is just a part of me. It's not always going to be pretty and perfect. There are going to be hard days, days where I just want to curl up and wait for tomorrow to come.  But all of it has a purpose.

"And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not." Galations 6:9
